बनारस और तुम

I've always been an enthusiast of culture and heritage. My keenness to explore more led me to the city that will always have a special place in my heart. I went on a solo trip to Banaras in February last year. The place was unlike any I had ever seen. Since then, my love for this place has grown by leaps and bounds. I was lost in its age-old aura of spirituality and liveliness upon entering the city. It pushed me in and pulled the most out of me. Kashi is a spiritual black hole, a trap for a lifetime, and I am glad I fell for it. 

My fond memories of my time in its Ghats inspired me to write this poem. 

While writing this poem, I thought of someone whom I greatly adore but can't express upfront. I've attempted to portray the state of Ghat and its feelings for beloved Ganga, who is unknown of how deeply someone admires her. 


तू बहती गंगा निर्मल-शीतल,
मैं घाट कोई चुप सा निश्चल।
तेरी चंचलता शोभा मेरी,
तेरा प्रवाह ही मेरा बल।

मैं स्थूल पत्थर का ढाँचा,
लिपटी मुझसे तेरी धारा है।
ग्रीष्म से तपते देह को,
चंदन का जैसे सहारा है।

तेरी चमक निराली प्रभात में,
तू दर्पण चांदनी रात में।
मैं चश्मदीद, तेरे रूप कई,
हर रूप निरखता तैनात मैं।

छोड़ गगन, और सर्द पवन,
मैं करना जो चाहू तुझसे जतन।
तू बैठी कहीं खुदमे ही व्यस्त,
और सदा मै रहता तुझमे मगन।

अबके बरसे घनघोर घटा,
तेरे भीतर मैं कही खो जाऊ।
तू फैलाए अपना जल-आँचल,
मैं तुझमे विलय फिर हो जाऊ।

There is a popular bhojpuri folk song called "तरसत जियरा हमार नैहर बिन…" Naihar means mother's home. And to me Kashi is an eventual home, which my soul longs for. Nothing like Varanasi!!

    Damn!!! I can not even put it in words how great this is. But I can recall a few lines I've read and this fits perfectly to this poem and your 'context' behind it. So it goes like
    सोनो बनारस अगर तुम मुझे न चाहो तो कोई बात नही, मेरा प्यार हम दोनो के लिए काफी हैं।

      Indeed, but trust me, the place is gonna give you back twice the amount of love you'll express.
      I am wondering if you, me, and Rahul could have a visit to the place when time and situation allow.

#Bazaar a poem on weekly market.

इन शहरो में चलते चलते, लग  जाते बाजार  है।  खरीद बेच की होड़ से ज्यादा , यहाँ दिलो का प्यार है।  बीच बाजार रंभाती कामधेनु , ले चल साथ ग्वालाएँ।  अपना सामान बचते उनसे , दिख जाते बच्चे और वृद्धाएँ।  दो वक़्त की रोटी खातिर , कितना कष्ट उठाते है।  इसी मेहनत के बलबूते पर , अपना घर बार चलाते है।  कहीं बालक पकडे आँचल , कहीं चाचाजी पकडे थैलियां।  पीछे चल अपने माँ ,पत्नीके , नापते है बाजार की गलियां।  महिलाएं करती मोल भाव , हल करती प्रश्न बड़े-बड़े।  करती बेहतर सैदेबाज़ी, ताकि जेब पर न बोझ पड़े।  राम बेचता सेवई ईद की , रहीम दिए बेच दिख जाता है।  जाती धर्म भेद भूलकर , समरसता का मंत्र सिखाता है।  ऑनलाइन का बढ़ता कहर , रोज़गार खा रहा है।  धुंधलाता यह दृष्ट प्यारा , सिसकता जा रहा है।  By:Harshvardhan kabra.
